Congratulations go to Eve in Bessy for having the most messed up Eudora folder ever to grace a hard drive, and still have it work. I spent an hour trying to figure out how to transfer her Eudora settings to her new computer only to find out every time I try to access the folder it crashes. Using the terminal fails to copy the files properly and the sum of the file/folder sizes comes out to be gigs off what the containing folder reports. I am very surprised that the program is running at all on her machine. I will be going in right after class with an assortment of disk utility and recovery programs to see if I can correct this mess. This is the most difficult problem I have encountered while working here. I'm so glad this person is not a dean or someone we actually have to support. My office is charging by the hour to support her, though I don't really get any bonus for actually doing the work :\.

How could I forget to mention this yesterday. I got myself a Gmail account. My username is jrearick for those of you who are interested.

I am finally done with Stargate. I am now ready to take on some more meaningful activities with my spare time. I am now going to start learning Cocoa. I have to find my Cocoa books and perhaps get setup so I can spend hours in front of my laptop. Perhaps I should take care of my white spots problem. I have also noticed some minor problems with my power supply at home. When I get my next paycheck I will buy some AppleCare and get these things fixed.

At work, I'm going to finish up all the computers that I have to build for Communications and Study Abroad. After that I will focus a lot of my spare working time to the scholarship system. I want to create an administration system so the people in charge can add / remove / edit scholarships at will without having me go in a do it for them, and also allow them to view and verify data as it comes in. I hope to have this done soon. I will not tell them I am actually working on it because if I do, they will send me more pointless stuff to do that will just eat away my time on this project.

I also have to figure out this AD stuff and how to get our Macs to login and authenticate services though our domain, if and possibly when the PC guys actually get the domain up and running.

I got an interesting e-mail though the jokes list, that has some good morals in it. Enjoy

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less

NOW --------

Enough of that crap

The donkey later came back and bit the shit out of the farmer who had tried to bury him. The gash from the bite got infected, and the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

MORAL FROM TODAY'S LESSON:

When you do something wrong and try to cover your ass, it always comes back to bite you.
I like to try to live my life keeping those rules in mind. When I do, I feel happier.

On another note. I have time today to see a movie. If people still want too see Terminal I can go tonight. Wednesday will not work since the showings are at 7:10 and 10. 7:10 is during service and 10 is just way too late for a weeknight.

Ok, so apparently there is no racing on Sunday. Though, my dad did have to work this evening at Scheman. Mom and I went to Borders this afternoon after getting brunch at Perkins. Spent a lot of time there looking at books. We got back and presented the gifts to my father and had Hickory Park take out. You can't imagine how busy actually going to the restaurant is on a day like today.

Reading the blogs today, I see that everyone seems to be in a good mood today. Adrienne is happy with her future plans, Colin is appreciative of the support he has been getting, Meri got to see one of her 'burg friends get married, Nick seems to have things going pretty well. I have been hanging with the family and mostly relaxing. Knowing my friends seem to be doing well make me feel good.

My test in Stat is on Tuesday and not on Wednesday as I had thought writing my previous blog entry. I'm going to go study now and get some rest.

Good Night.

Well, I went to Grundy today for my cousin's kid's (Nicholas) 3rd birthday. Left here around 3:30 or so. The day was pretty lazy. Kim just had to bring up the issue that I do not have a girlfriend. Then, of course, my mom tells me that I should ask out some people and Kim says she will help me find someone. ACK! If I wanted your help, I would have asked for it. Eventually they got around to joking that I should go to a titty bar or they should get me a hooker. Bahh! Have you ever had a family member suggest that sort of stuff? I know it was a joke, but ahh. This is not family conversation. I wish I could know my dad's side of the family a bit better, they seem a lot more like my type. Normally I get along just fine with these people, but they can get a little nosy and inconsiderate sometimes. They are very out-spoken and love to tease people. I roll my eyes at that.

I really wanted to get back in time to catch a movie, but that did not happen. I got back at around 11:00. Tomorrow, I think I'm going down to Prairie Meadows for father's day. I guess this is a family weekend. Perhaps a bunch of us can go after church next week. I've got a some homework and a test earlier next week, so I really can't do it until then.

My new blog system is just about done. I have a few bugs to work out and if I have time, I will have it running Monday evening. The email feature is working just like I planned. Though, I'm thinking perhaps I should include the post in the email in addition to links to making a comment and viewing the comments. I'm so proud that I was able to do this all from scratch. Perhaps I should take the time to learn CSS as well.

Anyway. I have been a little ranty today. I'm going to get an episode of Stargate out of the way and go to bed.

Hizza! I found a mail server that has a relay open to me :D

Well, I did a lot with my blog today. Added a bunch of little things that make life easier. Though I am having problems where my emails don't go out to off campus addresses. The mail function is sending from my Iowa State account and I am not getting any bounces. I even tried setting my SMTP server in php.ini to the MUG and agmail server, but I don't know if changes to the ini file will only take place after a restart of apache or if the change immediately take affect. I really don't want to restart apache until I know I have a bunch of time to figure out all the problems that will arise since I never restart services after emerges. Anyone have any ideas?
